2 Chronicles 29-31

 Dear brothers and sisters,

In the next two Bible studies we will be studying the reign of King Hezekiah.

This week you will need to read 2 Chronicles 29, 30, and 31. Yes, three chapters.

Chapter 29 covers the cleansing of the temple.

Chapter 30 covers the restoring of the Passover.

Chapter 31 covers other reforms under King Hezekiah.

We will not read all the verses during our time on Friday night, but shall read them all in preparing for that time.

Here are some questions to help as you read:

Chapter 29

(V. 3-9)

  1. How far into King Hezekiah's reign did he begin the work on the temple?
  2. What was the condition of the temple? Why was it in that condition?
(For the second part of #2 you will need to review the rule of His father King Ahaz in 2 Chronicles 28 and 2 Kings 16- yes, more reading Bible scholars! )
  3. Who was commissioned to do this work? What was their condition at this time?
  4. What had happened to the worship of Jehovah at that time?
  5. What happened to the people of Judah as a result?

(V. 10-19)

  1. What was in the heart of King Hezekiah at this time?
  2. What was the King's admonition to the priests and Levites?
  3. How did they respond?
  4. Where did they begin the cleansing of the House of the LORD?

(V. 20-36)

  1. What was included in restoring the worship of the LORD?
  2. What was a hindrance to worship ( V. 34) ? What remedied this hindrance?

Chapter 30

( V. 1-12)

  1. What was the next thing King Hezekiah did after cleansing the temple?
  2. What was changed concerning the feast? Why was this allowed?
  3. Who was invited by the King?
  4. What had recently happened to the Northern King (also called Israel)?
Hint 2 Kings 17, we studied it last time.
  5. What reason did the King give them for his inviting them?
  6. What was the response to the invitation?
  7. What problem occurred at the feast? How was it solved?
  8. What did King Hezekiah encourage the Levites to do during the feast?
  9. How did the people respond to this feast?

Chapter 31

(V. 1)

  1. How did the leading and works of King Hezekiah in Jerusalem effect the people of  Judah?

(V. 2-19)

  1. What else did King Hezekiah set right in this chapter?

Summary

  1. Do you think 2 Chronicles 29:1-2 and 2 Chronicles 31:20-21 are a fitting summary of the reign of Hezekiah?  Explain.
  2. What did Hezekiah do that David had done?

Hope to see you on ZOOM, Friday night! Happy studying!
