2 Kings 8:16-23

This Friday night at 7:30 we will continue our study of Kings on Zoom (link will be sent later). We will be considering 2 Kings 8:16-23 and the related chapters in 2 Chronicles 21:1-20 and 22:1-6. This particular study can be confusing because we have the King of Judah and the King of Israel with the same name and their name is translated two different ways: Jehoram or Joram depending on your translation. Even within the same translation the use of names is not always consistent. To help clarify this we will refer to the King of Judah as Jehoram ad the King of Israel as Joram.

King Jehoram of Judah: 2 Kings 8:16-23 & 2 Chronicles 21:1-20

1. How does the Holy Spirit describe Jehoram? Who was a major influence in his life?

2. What were some of the evil things he did?

3. Describe Elijah's letter to him. What was his response to this warning?

4. Who did the Lord use to bring judgment upon Jehoram? Had they been used by the Lord to discipline Israel before?

5. What do we see of the Lord in this chapter?

6. We have seen the service of Elijah & Elisha during our study. Are any of the written prophets coming into the picture yet? If so, who?

King Ahaziah of Judah: 2 Kings 8:24-29 & 2 Chronicles 22:1-6

1. How does the Holy Spirit describe Ahaziah? Was he know by another name also? Who was the major influence in his life?

2. Describe his alliance with Joram King of Israel to fight Aram (Syria) at Ramoth-gilead. Who had previously died in a battle at Ramoth-gilead?

(Note: we will see the death of Ahaziah in 2 Kings 9 where we see Jehu ruling over Israel)

The lives of these 2 kings are very sad. What can we learn from them and also about the Lord's covenant with David?

Kings and Prophets (charts, maps, timeline)

For our Friday Bible studies we're using a timeline for the kings that all can keep as well as a poster to refer to during our studies. Here are some pics from those as well as links to the place to buy them. (Link: Kings and Prophets Timeline) (Link: Kings and Prophets Poster)

2 Kings 13

We will be covering 2 Kings 13 this week. Even though Some of the rule of Israel's (not Judah's) king Joash (Jehoash) is covered in 2 Kings 14 it fits better with King Amaziah of Judah. Here are some questions to ponder as you read and study for Friday night. Like Mac shared last time, the questions we send are to help you dig into the chapter and help generate discussion not to be a limit or a rigid structure. What was common to all the kings of the Northern Kingdom of Israel? What was the state of Israel during the reign of King Jehoahaz ? How was Jehoahaz different than most kings of Israel? When and how was the prayer of Jehoahaz answered? What does the meeting between King Joash and Elisha tell you about the king? What does it tell you about Elisha? What does it tell you about God? How long was the ministry of Elisha? What was the fruit of it? ( The answers to #6 you have to dig for.) Why did Elisha put his hands on the hands of the king while he shot the arrows? Why was E...

2 Kings 20

This week we will consider from 2 Kings 20, 2 Chronicles 32:24-33 & Isaiah 38-39. Last time we considered Hezekiah's 1st test: The Assyrian invasion of Judah. This week we will consider the other 2 tests: His illness and the envoys from Babylon. As we saw last time 2 Kings 18-20 are not in chronological order. Our chapters this week, 2 Kings 20, et. al., occurred before Sennacherib's 2nd invasion in 2 Kings 18:17. Hezekiah's illness (2 Kings 20:1-11, 2 Chronicles 32:24-26 & Isaiah 38) What was the reason behind Hezekiah's illness? (2 Chronicles 32:24-26) What did Isaiah say to Hezekiah & what was Hezekiah's response? (2 Kings 20:1-3, Isaiah 38:1-3) a. What do you think of Hezekiah's response? What did the Lord speak to Isaiah about healing Hezekiah? (2 Kings 20:4-7, Isaiah 38:4-6 & 21) a. What are your thoughts on the Lord's response to Hezekiah? Why do you think Hezekiah asked for a sign? (2 Kings 20:8-11, Isaiah 38:22 & 7-8) a. What was...
