The Time of the Kings

 We will consider 2 Kings 1. Recommended reading: 1 Kings 22:51-2 Kings 1:18 Here are some questions to consider in preparation for our time together: 1 Kings 22:53 says about Ahaziah "...he provoked the Lord God of Israel to anger...". What were some of the ways the judgement of the Lord came upon Ahaziah (economically, politically, personally, etc.)? Who were the Moabites? When and who brought them into subjugation to Israel? Why were they rebelling now? What does it say of Ahaziah that he would seek Baaal-zebub after his severe accident? Why would he send his messengers to Ekron, which was in another county, Philistia? Describe the encounter between the messengers & Elijah? Why did they not complete their mission but return to Ahaziah? Why would Ahaziah know Elijah & the messengers would not know him? What does the hairy garment speak of? Compare the description of Elijah with that of John the Baptist. Describe the 3 encounters that Elijah had with the 51 soldiers
